Being environmentally responsible doesn’t happen in a day, it is a commitment and one that innkeepers at the Park Light Inn are fully dedicated to. Jo–Ann explains; “in each business decision we make, consideration is given to our environmental impact. Often, it requires greater investment to do the right thing, whether it be more expensive paper products or selecting locally grown organic produce, as opposed to inexpensive imports at the supermarket or wholesaler; expanding upon our vision to reduce our environmental impact takes a staring role in our decision making process. Of course, all the while we must balance the four star Vermont Bed and Breakfast Inn experience to which our guests have become accustomed and have grown to expect – which is why only the highest quality products and service providers are even considered.” The Park Light Inn has adopted strong environmental policies and has committed to expanding upon such practices and policies in the future.

An Award Winning, Eco-Friendly, Green Hotel in the Green Mountain State

Throughout the process of renovating the facility, so many decisions were made that had an impact on environmental management; in collaboration with Peter Crawford of Green Hotels in the Green Mountain State, and with the generous support of Efficiency Vermont and CVPS many changes have already been implemented, with more on the way including;

2005 – construction/renovations initiated, new insulation installed, eco-friendly materials installed/utilized whenever possible, including use of recycled materials, composting and recycling program initiated, storm windows and carbon free reservations system installed, ‘buy local” management plan and shuttle service instituted.

2006 – low flow toilets and faucets installed in renovated units, additional insulation (including pipe insulation) installed and landscaping renovations initiated (total 47 new trees/bushes planted) “no-whites” towel/linen replacement program implemented, voluntary guest “linen care” program policies implemented, ski shuttle sponsorship initiated

2007 – additional low-flow units installed, paper and plastic reduction plan implemented, “toxin free cleaning” plan initiated w/ product changes, along with the installation of over 100 CFLs, state of the art Energy Star appliances installed, offering sanitization without the use of harmful chemicals and bleach, low energy consumption, star rated, appliances including washer, dryer, dishwasher and 6 new flat-screen LCD televisions installed, low-flow 1.6GPM showerheads installed, individual recycling units installed in all guest rooms, Park Light also joins the Vermont Fresh Network and expands support of automobile free tourism through sponsorship of the Okemo ski shuttle and seasonal village tour bus service.

2008 – Park Light Inn receives Governor Jim Douglas's award for environmental excellence. Renovations continue with installation of eco-friendly vent-free fireplaces, upgraded compost system, and outdoor drying facility and recycling stations installed, guest suites are equipped with wall mount eco-friendly amenities stations, Park Light joins VBSR - Vermont Businesses for Social Responsibility and CVPS Cow Power purchasing renewable Electrical energy and employs the use of 100% recycled paper products.
